Tips for moving

Moving is a busy time for everyone, and here at Sherry FitzGerald Davitt & Davitt we pride ourselves on our ability to look after all your property sales requirements and liaisons with buyers and making everything run as smoothly as we po ssibly can.

Things to remember

• If possible, move on a weekday when banks, utilities and government offices are open.
• Packing is an ideal time to do a de-clutter; you may require a skip to throw out unwanted material.
• If doing your own packing, mark each box with its contents and destination room to ensure that you will know where each box belongs at your new home.
• If appropriate, use a reputable moving company, one that will carefully pack your goods, store them, transport them and unpack them for you.

It may be necessary to place the contents of your house into storage for a period.

Utilities And Services

• Re-direct mail with An Post
• Inform telephone company of new address - Eircom
• Inform electricity company of new address - ESB
• Inform gas company of new address – Bord Gais
• Inform cable TV company of new address – NTL or Sky Digital
• Inform your bank / credit card company of new address
• Contact your home insurance company to transfer contracts.
• Cancel or redirect all household deliveries, milk & newspapers, etc.
• Change medical record details, Doctor, Dentist, Vet, etc
• Take a meter reading of your ESB and/or Gas just before you leave your old property and first thing on moving into your new property
• If moving locally you may be able to take your old phone number with you, check with Eircom
